Stanley D. Cox, 74, of Walton was killed in a Nov. 29 crash on I-75 South near the Mary Grubbs Highway exit, according to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office.

Cox was sitting in a car in traffic on the exit ramp when he was rear-ended by another driver and pronounced dead on the scene.

Following the crash, his front-seat passenger, 69-year-old Debra Cox of Walton, was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.

Deputies say that the preliminary investigation suggests the driver who rear-ended Cox approached the exit ramp in his vehicle and collided directly with the rear of the Cox’s car. The impact caused a chain reaction collision among five other vehicles on or near the exit ramp.

The other victims of the crash include Hodo Hassan of Florence, Rhonda Plata of Walton, Skylar Mullis of Fort Thomas, Steve Centers of Walton and Jayson Putnam of Union.

The fatal collision remains under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team.
