A Holmes High School student was arrested after a weapon was found on campus Monday.

The student will face both criminal and school disciplinary charges, according to Shawn Wood, a representative of Covington Independent Public Schools.

Wood said just after 10:15 a.m. a student reported they found a weapon on school property. The student alerted a teacher, who informed school administrators.

The campus was locked down for roughly an hour as police investigated the situation.

Wood said no threats were made and students “were not in immediate danger.”

Superintendent Alvin Garrison said they are taking the incident seriously and that the student “will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”

“We appreciate the quick action of our students, staff and school resource officers in bringing this matter to a close,” Garrison said. “We also want to thank parents for their understanding and patience throughout the day.”

School officials have not said what type of weapon was found.
