The Boone County Traffic Safety Committee is planning a sidewalk in a Hebron neighborhood that will be nearly a mile long.
The hope is that the sidewalk addition will make the area more walkable, according to county officials.
The sidewalk will be located on the north side of the Thornwilde subdivision between Northcross Drive and Crosspointe Drive in Hebron. The sidewalk is scheduled to be completed on June 30, 2023.
Straight Edge Construction will create the sidewalk for $295,525. Their price came in 5% under County Engineer Robert Franxman’s estimate. Straight Edge previously worked on KY 18 in Burlington as well.
The action comes, coincidentally, during National Pedestrian Safety Month.
Pedestrian safety has also become a primary concern for local government in Northern Kentucky, following the death of Gloria San Miguel in August. San Miguel was riding her bike along the 11th Street bridge in Newport when she was struck by a car that fled the scene.
Now, Northern Kentucky cities are conceiving bike paths and expanding walkability in an effort to prevent future accidents.
