Northern Kentucky Health Department has appointed Jennifer Mooney as its new district director of Health.

Mooney will begin in her new position Oct. 31.

Mooney has served as assistant health commissioner for Hamilton County General Health District since 2019, overseeing the Community Health Services Department.

She previously held leadership roles within the Cincinnati Health Department from 2011 until 2019.

“NKY Health is fortunate to have someone with the skills and background of Dr. Mooney joining our team and we look forward to her leadership as we continue to address public health needs and goals for our community,” said Steve Divine, interim district director of health. “We have been looking for the right individual for over a year and believe we have found that person in Dr. Mooney.”

Mooney also has a long history in academia, including 10 years of behavioral science research and teaching at the University of Kentucky.

She has a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Kentucky, a master’s degree in corrections and juvenile justice from Eastern Kentucky University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Kentucky.

Mooney brings experience in areas of public health including epidemiology, children’s health issues, harm reduction and drug addiction, population health, disease prevention and reproductive health.

Mooney is a Kentucky native and said she is excited about the opportunity to continue her public health career in Northern Kentucky.
