The city of Erlanger is inviting families to pack a picnic, bring some lawn chairs and come to Shakespeare in the park and free putt-putt night.

On Sunday, Aug. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m., Erlanger residents will receive a free game of putt putt with proof of residency. The city is welcoming families to the event, located at 3139 Dixie Highway.

On Thursday, Aug. 25, the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company will perform the comedy “Twelfth Night” for free in Flagship Park.

Kim Wolking, director of event planning for Erlanger, said Shakespeare in the park is an annual event that she brought with her from her time as the recreation director for Edgewood. Now in its seventh year, Shakespeare in the park has become a summertime tradition and another installment of free events put on by the city.

Wolking said Flagship Park is “a very peaceful place” to visit, and makes it the perfect setting for a Shakespeare play.

“It’s a nice place to bring a blanket, pack a cooler, and enjoy the play on a nice summer evening,” she said.

Guests can also opt to bring a canned good or non-perishable food item to donate to the food pantry Be Concerned, one of the few pantries that offer groceries without proof of income, Wolking said. Though it’s not a requirement for admission, Wolking said donations are accepted at all of Erlanger’s free events.

The 10-day forecast shows a 70% chance of rain on Sunday. For possible rain delays for putt putt night or Shakespeare in the park, Wolking said residents can check social media on the day of the event.
