As it works to fill ten lifeguard positions needed to run a full schedule for two pools and a water park this summer, the City of Covington is hosting a hiring event Thursday.
Anyone interested should bring identification and arrive at Goebel Pool from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 9.
“They can walk in, interview right there, and walk out with a job and a training schedule – we will get them all lined up and ready to go,” said Ben Oldiges, the city’s parks and recreation manager.
The city has so far hired about 50 lifeguards, pool attendants and front desk workers. Applications that have been submitted are being processed, but more lifeguards are needed in order for pools to open on Saturday, June 11.
It takes about a week and a half to train someone to be a lifeguard, Oldiges said.
Applicants must be at least 15 years old. Those who are hired will be paid $12-13 an hour for a full, 40-hour work week.
Goebel Pool is located at 737 Dalton St. in Covington.
