The Campbell County Fiscal Court adopted an ordinance for a new school zone along with a speed limit change near Reiley Elementary School in Alexandria.

The County Administrator Matt Elberfeld said the Campbell County School District requested a new school zone be created on Alexandria Pike.

“For reasons that none of us have ever quite understood the current school zone for Reiley Elementary is along US 27; however, there is no access to Reiley Elementary from US 27. You access Riley Elementary off of Alexandria pike,” Elberfeld said.

Following the adoption of a new school zone, a school speed limit had to be set. The current speed limit in the area is 35 mph. The recommended speed limit in the school zone is 25 mph, like what is in place by the Campbell County High School.

Since US 27 is a state road, Elberfeld said the county would have to talk to the state about getting that school zone removed.

Another addition to Alexandria Pike will be the installation of flashers/traffic control devices in the new school zone.
