Northern Kentucky U.S. House Representative Thomas Massie voted against a resolution supporting Ukraine Wednesday. Massie was one of three to vote against it, including Reps. Matt Rosendale (R-Montana) and Paul Gosar (R-Arizona) were the other two.
The resolution calls on a quick end to the conflict and that the House “stands steadfastly, staunchly, proudly, and fervently behind the Ukrainian people in their fight against the authoritarian Putin regime.”
It also talks about the roughly 300,000 Ukrainians that formed a human chain in 1990 to call for independence from the Soviet Union. Over 90 percent of the country voted in a national referendum for its independence a year later.
When asked for comment, LINK nky was referred to a series of Tweets by the Congressman.
Newport’s 4th Congressional District Candidate Democrat Matthew Lehman said that Massie’s no vote isn’t representative of Kentucky’s values.
“Thomas Massie would let Vladimir Putin take back Alaska because it was part of Russia’s historical empire,” Lehman said. “His votes against supporting Ukraine and against the Emmett Till Anti-lynching Act are not representative of Kentucky’s values. While he likes to play the enlightened libertarian, Mr. Massie is, in fact, an anarchist dedicated to dismantling America’s institutions.”
