Democrat Stella Pollard is challenging Republican state Sen. Gex Williams for Kentucky’s 20th Senate District.
The 20th Senate District includes portions of Boone and Kenton counties, as well as Carroll, Franklin, Gallatin and Owen counties. Pollard hails from Franklin County, which is home to the Kentucky state capital of Frankfort.
For Pollard, a career spent in public education has helped shape her first campaign for the state Senate.
“As a public school educator, I live and breathe the value of public education every single day,” she wrote on her campaign website. “My commitment to our community runs deep.”
Pollard works for Franklin County Schools, where she serves as the district’s director of technology and communications. She previously worked as a public school teacher before moving into administrative roles focused on technology and information systems.
Her work has also extended beyond the Franklin County school system. In 2020, Pollard was among the Kentucky educators selected to help develop the state’s academic standards for technology, which establish expectations for how students use and understand technology in the classroom.
More recently, Pollard has continued working on issues surrounding technology and education. She represented Franklin County Schools at the Kentucky Society for Technology in Education’s 2025 conference, where she presented on data management and broadband systems in schools.
That background has carried over into her campaign for the state Senate. Pollard has emphasized public education and technology while also focusing on issues including infrastructure, economic development, health care and support for working families.
