Laura Vroegindewey said she is running for Cold Spring City Council because she wants to take a more active role in the community where she has lived and raised her daughter for 18 years.

Vroegindewey works as a home care physical therapist. She said her work requires daily communication, advocacy and coordination with health care partners while helping clients and their families.

Vroegindewey faces Chris Ampfer, Lisa Schmidt Cavanaugh, Steve Cunningham, Joe Heil, Cindy Moore, Paul Kloeker and Mason Meyer in the Nov. 3 general election.

“I like to take the time to talk to people and know the voices of those I will represent, their concerns, and their expectations so I can work to help fellow residents in any way possible,” Vroegindewey said.

Vroegindewey said she would bring skills from her work as a physical therapist to council, including communication, collaboration and advocacy. She said she wants to serve as a liaison between Cold Spring residents and city government.

If elected, Vroegindewey said her priorities would include being accessible to residents and listening to their comments and concerns.

She said she also wants to research different perspectives on issues before council and advocate for city government to respond to residents’ concerns with transparency and clear explanations.

Vroegindewey said her professional background has also taught her to be fiscally aware and responsive to others’ needs, which she believes would help her collaborate with other council members when making decisions.
