Jay Fossett is one of seven candidates running for a spot on the new Covington City Council, which is set to take effect in 2027. There are six seats on the new council.

Fossett has had a long career in local politics, both in Covington and other parts of Northern Kentucky. He served as the Covington city solicitor from 2001 to 2005 and was the Covington city manager from 2005 to 2009. He’s currently the city administrator for Dayton in Campbell County; he will leave that position at the end of 2026. He has a master’s degree in executive leadership and organizational change, as well as a law degree.

“My primary motivation to serve on Covington City Council and in my past work as city solicitor and city manager was and is to improve the quality of life in our city to make it an even more vibrant and livable community,” said Fossett.

His campaign priorities are ensuring the well-being of the public safety departments (i.e. police and fire), managing economic development, improving and supporting the city’s many neighborhoods and deepening the relationship between the city and Covington Independent Public Schools.

“At the heart of my value system and my leadership style are two core concepts: honesty and kindness,” Fossett said.

He concluded by saying, “My record shows that I’m someone who knows how to get things done. And that’s what I plan to do if elected to Covington’s newly constituted Board of Council.”
