Amy Amin said she is running for Kentucky state representative because she wants to focus on Campbell County’s schools, economy and cost of living while emphasizing local issues over national politics.
Amin said her decision to run grew from her involvement with public schools and her experiences working with teachers, administrators and staff. She said those experiences showed her the challenges educators face as they take on additional responsibilities while working with limited resources.
Amin faces Republican Mike Clines in the Nov. 3 general election.
“I don’t think public service should be about building a political career,” Amin said. “It should be about solving problems, listening to people, and leaving your community better than you found it.”
If elected, Amin said her first priority would be strengthening Campbell County’s economy by expanding its tax base, creating good-paying jobs and pursuing additional economic opportunities.
Amin said economic growth could provide additional resources for public education, infrastructure and efforts to make health care more affordable.
She also pointed to the relocation of Northern Kentucky University’s Chase College of Law from Highland Heights to Kenton County as an example of an economic asset leaving Campbell County. Amin said she wants to advocate in Frankfort for investments and opportunities that benefit the county.
Amin said she wants to work with Democrats, Republicans and Independents and believes disagreements should not prevent elected officials and residents from working together.
She said her overall goal is to keep Campbell County’s needs at the center of her work in Frankfort.
