The Fraternal Order of Police lodges located in Supreme Court District 6 have officially endorsed Justice Michelle Keller in her judicial reelection campaign.
Keller was joined by Ryan Straw, vice president of the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Police, Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Susanne Cetrulo and Rep. Rachel Roberts (D-Newport) at Devou Park last Friday afternoon for the announcement.
“Today, the law enforcement is going to make known who we believe is the right person to continue serving in the Supreme Court,” Straw announced. “So I’d like to announce that the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Police at the vote of local lodges in the Sixth Supreme Court district have endorsed Michelle Keller for reelection to the Kentucky Supreme Court.”
Keller is running against Joe Fischer, a longtime Kentucky state representative. Keller was first appointed to the Kentucky Supreme Court in 2013 to fill a vacancy left by the retirement of Will Schroder. She won reelection the following year in 2014 and has spent nine years in her position.
District 6 is comprised of Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Pendleton, Bracken, Grant, Gallatin, Carroll, Owen, Trimble, Henry, Shelby and Oldham counties.
“It’s with an extremely grateful and humble heart that I accept this endorsement of the campaign,” Keller said. I’m here today to celebrate it’s my honor to stand shoulder to shoulder with the men and women of law enforcement across the Commonwealth to both enforce and uphold the rule of law.”
Straw mentioned in the endorsement speech the organization stands by the candidates they endorse regardless of party affiliation.
“They have the full support of our entire membership statewide,” Straw said. “There’ll be those who try to turn this into a political stunt or some kind of dog and pony show, but it’s absolutely clear to us and our members that we do not have time to participate in that kind of political rhetoric.”
