The following op-ed is written by Mike Clines, a candidate in the Republican primary for Kentucky House District 68

As a career educator, I have enjoyed supporting our local families. I love our community – our willingness to come together – our desire for a better life for our children and families. As a school administrator, it was my great honor to make sure our educational issues were taken seriously by county and government officials.

In August of 2020, as superintendent, we went against Gov. Beshear’s recommendation to delay the start of in-person instruction by six weeks. At the same time, as a member of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Board of Control and in the best interest of the students’ mental and social health, I voted against the Governor’s recommendation to delay the start of high school sports. #LetThemPlay Looking back, I believe both were the right decisions.

This is one of the big reasons I decided to run for State Representative. Having lived in five Campbell County cities – Grant’s Lick area, Alexandria, Cold Spring, Ft. Thomas, and Bellevue – I have a lot of skin in the game when it comes to our local issues. Just like you, I want our voices heard in Frankfort.

As a lifelong professional educator, I know COVID has impacted our families in impossible ways. I also know that I have the experience to meet this and related challenges head-on.

I have found myself in the right place at the right time, so to speak. My decision to run comes as our residents are struggling through inflation, high gas prices, and past and possible future pandemic limitations. You deserve qualified, proven community leaders in Frankfort who are clearing a path forward for you and your loved ones.

I have over 28 years’ experience working between our community leaders, Northern Kentucky legislators and local families. My mission has always been (1) to advocate for children and hard-working families, (2) to improve the quality of education, and (3) to stand up for our way of life in our region. I currently serve on the Go Norse Fund Board, Xavier University’s School of Education Advisory Board, and I am Chair of the ACT KY State Organization.

Fighting for our values is a big priority. I have lived Pro-Life causes and I am the only candidate in my race endorsed by the Kentucky Right to Life Association.  For defending the Second Amendment, I have received the NRA’s highest rating of AQ.

On May 17, I respectfully ask for your vote. I am running as a proven leader to improve our quality of life, help stabilize this economy and make lasting, positive changes. I’m a conservative who stands for Republican values and Pro-Life causes.

I have spent my entire career serving the NKY community. I can’t wait to continue to support our residents’ needs in House District 68, as one District, like one person, can inspire and set an example for others. Thank you for your consideration!
