First-quarter reports show that Republican Sen. Rand Paul is significantly outraising his likely Democratic challenger Charles Booker. Booker is the Democratic frontrunner but still faces a primary on May 17.

According to his campaign’s statistics, Paul raised nearly $3.5 million in the first quarter of 2022 and increased cash on hand to $8.6 million. This first quarter of 2022 brings his total contributions to more than $17.5 million in contributions between 2021 and 2022. The total amount raised is more than 3.5 times what he raised in all of 2015 and 2016 combined.

“Kentuckians want someone who won’t defund the police and force our communities into further COVID lockdowns,” said Jake Cox, Deputy Campaign Manager. “This latest fundraising record is more proof that Dr. Paul’s agenda is supported by the people and what they want representing them in the Senate.”

Booker’s campaign raised just $836,900. This leaves him with $527,603.34 cash on hand

“Last week, our team learned that Rand Paul announced his highest fundraising haul to date, bringing in millions of dollars in corporate donations last quarter,” said Booker’s campaign email. “Meaning, while he was ignoring Kentuckians and spreading dangerous lies, Rand was collecting six-figure checks from corporations, lobbyists, and other dark money sources.”
