The city of Florence is hosting the Witness Tree event to raise awareness of wounded veterans returning to civilian life.

The event will be held beginning Nov. 1 and run through Nov. 11 daily at 8 a.m. on the campus of the Florence Government Center at the Boone County Veteran’s Memorial.

The program is expected to last approximately 15 minutes each day.

In the United States, 22 veterans commit suicide each day.

The daily ceremony will include placing 22 dog tags on a tree, readings, meditative thought, and reflection.

At the end of the eleven days, 222 dogs tags will hang in honor of those veterans.
