The City of Union is going back to the drawing board after one of its parking options for an upcoming event has been compromised.
Preceding the upcoming Bourbon in the Bluegrass event in Union on Oct. 22, Ryle High School notified the city that a cross-country meet will also take place on Oct. 22.
This conflicts with the original parking arrangement the City of Union planned for this event. Along with locations at Union Presbyterian Church and Union Park, Ryle’s parking lot was also supposed to be a viable option.
The city discussed an alternative to transporting people in a van from Union Baptist Church’s parking lot on Union School Road to Farm Haven.
“Since this is the first event and we don’t know what kind of attendance we are going to have, I would rather have the van there instead of being caught off-guard,” Commissioner John Mefford said.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Department will also send deputies to monitor and direct traffic as needed and the City of Union will continue to update the community on parking as information is received.
