The Kenton County Public Library is seeking up to five artists or artist teams to gussy up new fiberglass benches to be installed around the county.

The benches, shaped like books, will be painted from inspiration from a list of books provided by the library. The artwork must be an original interpretation and not directly from any imagery in or on the book. These public installations are intended to celebrate literacy and bring attention to the library’s public resources.

The application is open to artists/artist teams in any media who live and work in the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati regions.

Once complete, benches will be installed throughout the community in highly visible areas.

Officials say that the benches will probably be around Covington and possibly Latonia. Final locations will be determined by the communities in which they are located, Kenton County Public Library and the City of Covington.

The benches will stay in their chosen location for up to one year. All terms and conditions will be laid out in a contract to be signed by the artist upon selection.

Applications Due by Jan. 13, 2023 at 11:59 pm. Selection of the winners will be on or before Jan. 24. Once selected, artists will submit their contracts by Jan. 26. Benches will be available to the artists the first week of February and must be completed by the end of March.
