Two generations of designers were honored this week as Alexandria retires its 1999 city logo and embraces a new look for the decades ahead.
Alexandria issued a call for ideas in November 2024 for new logo designs. The design ideas were presented at a council meeting in June, and the city approved the new logo at a meeting in August.

The design that stood out was submitted by Cody Disney, a former resident who still has ties to the city through family. The current logo design was accepted at the May 20, 1999, meeting, and was designed by Alexandria resident Pam Proctor. The city recognized both Disney and Procter and its Nov. 20 meeting.
“Over 25 years, we’ve had this wonderful logo,” said Alexandria Councilmember Patrick Blair, who helped spearhead the new logo effort. “The typical lifespan of a logo is about 10 to 15 years. So to say that Pam’s logo has served the city so well would be an understatement. Pam, on behalf of the city of Alexandria, please accept our gratitude for your creativity and your lasting mark on the history of Alexandria.”

Disney received his degree in graphic design from Northern Kentucky University and has worked in the field for 11 years. He volunteered his time for the logo design; therefore, it has cost the city nothing.
Doug Field, who created the city’s slogan “Where the city meets the country,” was also recognized at the Nov. 20 meeting.
“One thing was clear during our outreach process last year: people really appreciate and align with our city slogan, and even after 25 years, it still applies,” Blair said. “Even with our growth in the city.”

The new logo incorporates the Alexandria Courthouse, located at 8352 E Main St. The city plans to soft-launch the new logo rather than replacing everything at once.
“That is a lot of history there, 25 years and who knows how long the new logo will be around,” said Alexandria Mayor Andy Schabel. “The slogan we have absolutely no intention of doing away with it any time soon. It will continue to live on. Thank you all for your contributions to the city of Alexandria.”
