The newly renovated Boone County Veterans Memorial underwent a special rededication ceremony on Saturday.
The ceremony was held in honor of H.B. Deatherage, a veteran and community advocate who first brought the idea to the city government.
Located in front of the Florence Government Center, the site features lighted flagpoles and granite monuments etched with the names of 81 fallen Boone County Veterans.
“The central zone honors those who made the ultimate sacrifice in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the War on Terror,” according to a city press release. “The site also contains black granite memorials to the POW/MIA’s, Purple Heart Recipients, The Kentucky Veterans Hall of Fame and a memorial bench in honor of Charles C. Fleek, Congressional Medal of Honor recipient.”
