The annual Ohio River Paddlefest is underway, with some 2,000 participants coming from across the country to participate in the nation’s largest paddling celebration.
Paddlefest is an event that supports AdventureCrew, a nonprofit that connects teens to nature and each other through outdoor adventures, according to their website.
The official event is set for Saturday, Aug. 2. Paddlers start between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and can choose from a 4.5-mile route or a 9-mile route. Click here to sign up if you’re interested in participating.
Each year, Paddlefest Sunrise takes places a few days before the official event, with paddlers taking to the water just as the sun is rising. Click here to see photos from last year.
Photographer Joe Simon was there Wednesday morning to take photos, and they are stunning. Scroll down to click through his gallery.
