The Highlands High School Varsity Dance Team brought home a national trophy this winter.

During their April meeting, the Fort Thomas City Council honored the team that competed against 40 other teams at the National Dance Alliance National Championship held in Orlando in February.

The team earned first place in the Medium Pom category and second place for their Large Hip Hop routine, said Assistant Coach Molly Ferring.

“It was a lot of fun. We had just come off of two state championships, one for hip hop and one for pom, and then went down to nationals. It was definitely very, very exciting,” Ferring said.

Mayor Eric Haas gave each team member a certificate and congratulated them on their achievement. This was the first time the team had won a national championship.

Ashley Wrobleski is the head coach for the Highlands dance team.
