The Campbell County Fiscal Court recognized the significant athletic and academic achievements of students from all of the county’s high schools at its July 17 meeting.

Over 40 students from Bellevue, Bishop Brossart, Campbell County, Dayton, Highlands, Newport, and Newport Central Catholic High Schools were acknowledged by the county.

“I am aware that many of you are going to further your education outside our community, and some of you may pursue a career outside our community,” Campbell County Judge/Executive Steve Pendery said. “My advice, the same advice I gave my son and daughter, would be to follow your dreams wherever they may take you.”

The students and why they were recognized are:

Bellevue High School

  • Dominic Reinhart: Valedictorian
  • Marcelo Herald: State champion – indoor long jump
  • Parker Kern: State champion – Class A wheelchair discus

Bishop Brossart High School

  • Alex Gulley: National merit commendation
  • Ava Heim: National merit commendation
  • Nathan Ruth: State champion – Class A cross country & 800 meters
  • Ryan Clines: State champion – 4 x 800 meter relay
  • Nick Heck: State champion – 4 x 800 meter relay
  • Brennan Callahan: State champion – 4 x 800 meter relay
  • Griffin Hill: State champion – 4 x 800 meter relay
  • Ava Walters: State champion – shot put Class A

Campbell County High School

  • Jodie Meiser: Valedictorian
  • Rileigh Sherman: Salutatorian
  • Olivia Holbrook: KHSAA indoor Class 3A state champion – 800 meters
  • Cole Johnson: National merit finalist
  • Xander Edwards: First place – printmaking at Kentucky Art Education Association state exhibition

Dayton High School

  • Owen Overman: Valedictorian
  • Kaylee Marimon: Salutatorian
  • Kelcie Martin: State champion – unified 2 x 200 relay race in the unified state track meet
  • Sammy McFarland: State champion – unified 2 x 200 relay race in the unified state track meet

Highlands High School

  • Owen Borden: Valedictorian and presidential scholar
  • Chanuthmi Abeysinghe: Salutatorian
  • Graham Borden: Commissioner of Education’s Student Advisory Council
  • Sophie Uhl: State champion – forensics/dramatic interpretation
  • Eliana Niese: State champion – data science and analytics engineering
  • Jack Wilson: State champion – data science and analytics engineering
  • Addyson Eifert: State champion – sports nutrition

Newport High School

  • Haley Nordwick: Valedictorian
  • Jyoti Davis: Salutatorian

Newport Central Catholic High School

  • Sam Krebs: Magna Cum Laude honors – ranked second overall in class of 2024
  • Ryan Desmond: Summa Cum Laude honors – Walter McGaff Award winner (top male student-athlete based on a combination of academic and athletic achievement)
  • Caleb Eaglin: Cum Laude Honors – multiple record-setting school golf rounds

“Tonight, we want to acknowledge your dedication and excellence, and you demonstrated fabulous qualities academically and athletically,” Pendery said. “Our society and our region need you, and we’re holding you up as an example to show others what it’s possible to do. I want to congratulate you on having developed your potential to the heights you have so far in your careers.”
