The Purple People Bridge turned 150 years old this year and to celebrate the sesquicentennial, the bridge is hosting a series of events throughout the summer, starting with the Big Bourbon Bash on Thursday, June 16.

President of Newport Southbank Bridge Company Will Weber said he was excited to invite people down to the bridge to enjoy local bourbon from Kentucky and Ohio.

The Big Bourbon Bash on the bridge will highlight local bourbon from both Kentucky and Ohio. From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the bridge while trying both bourbon and cocktails from local distilleries.

The following distilleries are participating in the event:

  • Dexter Bourbon by Brain Brew Distillery
  • Karrikin Spirits Co.
  • Northside Distilling Co.
  • Pensive Distilling Co.
  • Boone County Distilling Co.
  • New Riff Distillery

The event will also feature themed bourbon arts and crafts vendors along with food trucks. There is no ticket purchase necessary, and attendance is free.

Two other events hosted on the Purple People Bridge this summer to celebrate its 150th Anniversary are The Red White & Brew, which is scheduled for Thursday, July 7 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and The Back Roads Wine Festival, which will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 11, featuring wineries from both Kentucky and Ohio.
