NKY Pride returns to Covington this weekend.
Events include the NKY Pride Pop-Up Shop on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the NKY Pride Center (230 West Pike Street, Covington). Pride swag will be available for sale ahead of Sunday’s events.
The NKY Pride Parade is Sunday and starts at 1 p.m. at the north end of Madison Avenue and will make its way to Goebel Park in Mainstrasse Village where NKY PrideFest will follow with live entertainment and more than eighty vendors, organizers said.
NKY Pride was a virtual event in 2020 and scaled down in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This weekend marks its full return.
“With everything going on in the world and the attacks we see on LGBTQIA+ lives — particularly youth — every day, it is more important than ever that we come together as a community,” said Bonnie Meyer, co-chair of the Northern Kentucky Pride Center. “We’re beyond thrilled to bring all of the festivities for NKY Pride back and are looking forward to reconnecting and celebrating.”
One such vendor is First Christian Church, located in downtown Covington, which will be offering free weddings at its booth. The church said that the booth will feature a wedding arch and no-cost ceremonies to any couple that brings a valid marriage certificate.
“NKY Pride is a huge event for us and a great way for us to let the LGBTQ+ community know that we are here to support them,” the church said in the announcement.
