St. Vincent de Paul Northern Kentucky’s Turkeyfoot Trot 5K Run/Walk is back for its 18th year, returning to the campus of Thomas More University on Saturday, November 15, 2025.
The Turkeyfoot Trot 5K is a fall tradition for hundreds of Northern Kentucky runners and walkers, with many families making it part of their Thanksgiving-season celebration. From its humble beginning as a gathering of neighborhood families at St. Barbara Catholic Church on Turkeyfoot Road, the race has grown into St. Vincent de Paul Northern Kentucky’s largest annual fundraiser.
Proceeds support St. Vincent de Paul Northern Kentucky’s mission of serving neighbors in need, particularly during the holiday season, when requests for emergency assistance rise. Funds raised through registration fees are distributed to parish-based Conferences, with Vincentian volunteers then provide food, rent and utility assistance, beds, winter coats, and other essentials directly to families in their homes.
This year’s event comes at a time when many local households are experiencing reduced access to SNAP benefits. As many as 600,000 Kentuckians have been affected by these changes, leading more families to seek help. The Turkeyfoot Trot 5K is a meaningful way for the community to support those who need a helping hand during the holidays – simply by showing up.
“As SNAP benefits shrink and food prices rise, community support has never been more essential to our mission,” said Karen Zengel, Executive Director of St. Vincent de Paul Northern Kentucky. “The Turkeyfoot Trot 5K Run/Walk helps meet the growing demand for food and emergency assistance by providing direct financial support, as well as care and compassion, to local families who need help now.”
The race begins at 9:00 a.m., with check-in starting at 7:30 a.m. outside the Saints Center at Thomas More University. Mikhayla Hughes-Shaw, host of WCPO 9’s “Cincy Lifestyle,” will serve as emcee.
