A new 1.3-acre site for Prime Car Wash was proposed to replace the old Swifty Gas Station on Burlington Pike at Tuesday’s Florence City Council meeting.
Joshua Hunt, business and community development director, proposed the project to the council and stated that the site’s architecture exceeds the Central Florence Overlay District Architecture requirements.
Residents who spoke with Hunt said they were concerned with stormwater detention, lights, noise, a fence and a detention basin. Hunt said the project would include an underground detention facility.
According to Hunt, the car wash would be a little over 11,000 square feet, with five bays, 17 parking stalls and exterior vacuums. He also added that the site has two existing curb cuts, and one will be removed.
Other architectural issues that will need to be fixed include the building’s colors, awnings, rooftop mechanical unit, lighting conditions with no bleed over and ensuring that the fence behind the property stays.
The first reading of the ordinance was approved by council members present and a second reading will be discussed later.
