  • Founder Logan Willoughby draws inspiration from childhood trips to antique shops with his grandmother.
  • The store adds to ongoing revitalization efforts at the historic Ritte’s Corner business district.

Entrepreneur Logan Willoughby became interested in vintage items while shopping with his grandmother during his childhood. They often visited Goodwills and antique stores together, picking out unique items during their visits.

“I was always interested in buying cheap stuff that you can get for a deal,” he said. “It kind of felt like a treasure hunt for me.”

Willoughby is the founder of Feel Something Vintage, located at 3706 Decoursey Ave. in Covington’s Latonia neighborhood. Feel Something specializes in curating and selling vintage clothing, headwear, accessories and mid-century modern furniture.

Willoughby considers mid-century modern furniture to be one of his passions, due to the timeless nature of its design and its recent resurgence in popularity. Midcentury modern is a design style that gained popularity in the United States between the 1930s and 1960s, focusing on clean lines and organic forms.

“It was a time where they were pushing design, and it was supposed to look futuristic, but now it’s a timeless piece that, even now, that’s what people are looking for, and they see the value,” he said. “It’s because, I mean, it’s lasted for 50, 60, 70, years. It just shows the craftsmanship and the design of that time.”

When walking into the store, customers are greeted with curated displays of items. In particular, Willoughby created a 1970s-style living room area, featuring a large-backed dial television, a vinyl record player with a storage shelf stocked with classic records, centered around a leather couch and a mid-century modern glass coffee table.

For Willoughby, vintage items give customers a way to connect with a previous time period. During a recent road trip along California’s Pacific coast, Willoughby noticed numerous vintage stores in small towns along the shoreline. As a business owner, Willoughby expressed his desire to help boost the popularity of vintage stores in his own community.

“It’s not as popular here, but I do think that there’s a demand for it, and it’s growing because people really like that kind of stuff,” he said.

Another important part of Feel Something is its role in revitalizing Latonia’s Ritte’s Corner area. Ritte’s Corner stands out because it is a five-way intersection. Historically, the area has been home to several shops, flats, restaurants, offices and banks. Though it’s experienced its ups and downs, the corner offers entrepreneurs an affordable opportunity to open retail busisesses.

“I think it’s really a cool area that’s under-advertised right now,” he said. “But once the word gets out, people are really excited about that. I would love to see more places come in.”

On July 29, the City of Covington held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Feel Something to mark the opening of the business. During the ceremony, Covington Economic Development Director Tim West recognized Willoghby as part of the entrepreneurial group that’s invested in helping revitalize Ritte’s Corner.

“There’s a lot of revitalization happening here, and it seems like almost every week or so, there’s a new entrepreneur like you that are discovering this incredible business district,” West said.

Currently, Feel Something has weekend-focused hours. The store is open Thursday and Friday from noon to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
