Covington is now home to a company that aims to bring accessible transportation options to an underserved Northern Kentucky market.

Superior Van & Mobility, the largest family-owned mobility dealership in the United States, has opened a new location in Covington’s Latonia neighborhood. The branch, located at 3813 Winston Ave. within the Latonia Commerce Center, will provide mobility services to customers throughout Greater Cincinnati.

The company’s primary service is selling modified vehicles for elderly and disabled individuals, including those from BraunAbility and Vantage Mobility, among others. In addition, they also offer services such as vehicle modifications and van rentals. Superior now operates 18 sales and service centers across Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Nebraska and Tennessee.

Sam Cook, the company’s president, told LINK nky that Covington’s location allows them an entrance into the NKY market, as well as a close proximity to Cincinnati.

Prior to the dealership’s opening, customers in the NKY market would travel over an hour to Superior’s locations in Lexington and Louisville.

“We have a store in Lexington as well, so it just made sense,” he said. “There was a need that Northern Kentucky was underserved, and we can also serve the Cincinnati market being in Covington.”

Superior’s new dealership features an indoor showroom for testing a wide range of mobility products, an on-site service center staffed by factory-certified technicians, and a selection of new and pre-owned wheelchair-accessible vehicles available for immediate delivery.

On Thursday, leaders from the City of Covington and Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce joined the staff of Superior Van & Mobility to commemorate the opening of the dealership.

“The important thing is that everybody feels included in this dream of Covington and how it’s moving forward, and sir, your company allows that with these vehicles,” Mayor Ron Washington said. “ I’m so glad that you’re here. I’m so glad that you’re in our Latonia section of the city, and the inclusive nature of your company says a lot about you and your family.”

The Latonia Commerce Center on Winston Avenue has seen a recent influx of businesses. Superior is the latest addition, following the Kenton County Library’s satellite branch, which opened earlier this week. Over the past three years, Keller Logistics and the Enzweiler Building Institute have also established themselves within the complex.

Formerly known as the Latonia Plaza, Covington has targeted the property for redevelopment since the closure of the big-box anchor store, Burlington Coat Factory, in 2019. Two years later, a group of investors led by Covington-based developer Josh Niederhelman purchased the property from Columbus-based Schottenstein Property Group.

The Latonia Commerce Center is the most prominent retail property in south Covington and Latonia, housing stores such as Kroger, Dollar General and RDI Corporation.
