Just days after the Covington Frisch’s permanently closed, the vacant W. 5th Street building will have a brand new owner and tenant.
It’s new tenant? Skyline Chili.
One Holland Group, a Taylor Mill-based restaurant franchisee, is the owner and operator of the Covington Skyline. The company owns and manages various Skyline Chili, LaRosa’s, First Watch, Dunkin’ Donuts and Roy Rogers franchises across Northern Kentucky. One Holland CEO, Gary Holland, confirmed the news to LINK nky over the phone.
“I’m a Kentuckian first and a Skyline guy second, so it’s good to be able to find a location for the Covington Skyline which is one of the oldest in Northern Kentucky and the Skyline system,” Holland said.
Last July, One Hollard announced it was taking over ownership of the Skyline located at 617 West Third Street in Covington. Before One Holland took over, the restaurant was headed for closure. In April 2023, Skyline announced the location would be temporarily closing and would be searching for a new location with a drive-thru.
The Covington Frisch’s closed on Sunday, April 7, leaving the restaurant building at the corner of 3rd and Philadelphia Street vacant.
Holland told LINK nky that the building was desirable due to its drive-thru and location. One Holland plans on investing approximately $1 million to renovate the building and have the new Skyline up and running by January 2025.
