Erlanger council members discussed an ordinance at Tuesday’s meeting that would add an additional tax for new employees; the idea is for that money to be used for future developments.
The initiative is spearheaded by Atlas Air and proposes a credit of the city’s Occupational License Fee for new employees.
This initiative falls under the purview of the Kentucky Business Investment Program. The original ordinance was passed on July 6, 2021, setting the stage for the proposed amendment. Since its inception, the Commonwealth of Kentucky has enacted reductions in income tax rates, prompting the need for adjustments within the ordinance.
“ This is what Atlas Air Inc is proposing and the changes they want to make.” City Attorney Jack Gatlin said. “We haven’t had any issues as a city so there is probably no need to make any changes.” Â
Atlas Air has plans to invest approximately $34 million in expanding their Erlanger facility at 580 Atlas Air Way.
The expansion is anticipated to result in the creation of 593 full-time jobs for Kentucky residents.
