Lou Lou’s Cafe — located in Alexandria’s historic Spare-Time Grill building — announced its impending closure.
The reason for closure is due to the owners needing to help a family member that’s dealing with health issues, according to a Facebook post from the business’ account. Lou Lou’s Cafe is slated to permanently close on Feb. 18.
“After some serious health issues that have risen with one of our family members we have decided that it is best for us to step away from Lou Lou’s and focus on our family,” read the post.
Lou Lou’s Cafe opened in February 2020, one month before U.S. states started implementing lockdowns to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
The original Spare-Time Grill opened in 1958 and is considered a landmark within the Alexandria community. The building is adorned with multiple neon signs and serves as a reminder of 1950s-style diners in the modern era.
