A Covington cannoli bar is relocating to a vacant storefront on Madison Avenue.
On Nov. 1, Del Gardo’s announced on Facebook they would be winding down operations at their current storefront on 5th Street. The cannoli bar first unveiled their intentions to move in a post on Oct. 27.
“Saying Goodbye today to the 5th Street location is hard,” read the post. “Remembering all the good times here celebrating birthdays, prepping for weddings, meeting new people and enjoying all the holidays.”
Their new location at 621 Madison Ave. is set to open on Nov. 17, according to a sign posted in the window.
The storefront sat vacant for months after Pink Moon boutique closed this summer. Before that, the space was home to LINK nky from January to August 2022.
In July 2018, proprietor Steve Del Gardo fulfilled a lifelong dream by establishing his namesake restaurant. Del Gardo’s serves its signature cannoli and tiramisu, as well as drinks like imported Italian wines, cappuccinos and espresso.
621 Madison Ave. is in a high foot traffic area in Covington’s Central Business district. It’s located directly across the street from Hotel Covington and is only a short walk away from Braxton Brewery’s 7th Street taphouse.
“You got Braxton, Ripple, The Hannaford, Hotel Covington and a lot of people walking around,” Del Gardo told LINK nky. “I just love the fact that it’s high energy.”
Del Gardo said he wanted his new location to be more carry-out oriented giving patrons the option to take their cannoli’s on the go as they frequent other nearby businesses.
“People can walk around with the cannoli,” Del Gardo said. “You can take the cannoli back to the restaurant or back to the hotel room across the way. That’s what I wanted to do.”
In addition, Del Gardo unveiled that his business would now be open five nights a week from Tuesday through Saturday. On Friday and Saturday, business hours are from 4 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. On Tuesday through Thursday, business hours are from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.
