A Covington barbeque restaurant announced its permanent closure after six years in business.

McK’s BBQ, located at 11 W. 7th St., had a note posted to its front door thanking its customers for their support.

“We Have Permanently Closed,” read the note. “Thank you for the past six years.”

The closure note included a phone number for interested parties to contact for inquiries about the property. Located across the street from Agave & Rye, adjacent to Hotel Covington, and just doors down from Braxton Brewing, the building is located in one of Covington’s highest foot traffic areas. The property is owned by Eric Steiden of Madison Ventures.

Founded in 2017 by restauranter Greg McKinstry, McK’s served classic barbeque dishes and traditional sides like collard greens, macaroni & cheese, and baked beans. Their meats were cooked each morning in two drum smokers in the alley next door to the restaurant.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, McK’s temporarily closed down for a renovation. It was completed in 2021. Today, the outside of the property features a painted red brick facade. On the inside: salvaged barnwood and black walnut bar tops.

McK’s BBQ also had a second location in Cincinnati’s Liberty Township. It, too, has closed.
