A big box home decor retailer filed for bankruptcy, spelling the end of the road for its lone Northern Kentucky location.

The retailer, Christmas Tree Shops, was known for selling outdoor furniture, lawn games and seasonal home decor. The chain’s only location in Kentucky was in Florence at 1336 Hansel Ave. In total, Christmas Tree Shops has 72 stores in 20 different states across the country — all of which are slated to close.

According to their website, shoppers can get up to 50% off all in-store items as the company goes through a liquidation sale. Gift cards are functional until July 21. As of now, there have been no reports on when the closures are expected to be finished.

In May, Christmas Tree Shops filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, later converted to Chapter 7 bankruptcy. From 2003 to 2020, Christmas Tree Shops was a subsidiary of Bed Bath & Beyond, another big box home goods retailer that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this year. Bed Bath & Beyond closed its Crestview Hills location at the end of June.

Originally founded in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, in 1970, the company began to grow in the 1980s. Their stores were primarily located in New England before expanding into other regions such as the Midwest and Southeast.
