While it’s not technically summer yet, for many, Memorial Day weekend is the start of the season. Especially for those in the Cincinnati area — summer means one thing: creamy whips.

For those not familiar with this odd regional term, creamy whips is just the Cincinnati way of saying soft-serve ice cream — and there are plenty of local spots to get your creamy whip fix.

Read on to learn about some of the best creamy whip spots in Northern Kentucky.

Silver Grove Dari Bar, Silver Grove

A local favorite, the Silver Grove Dari Bar serves everything from burgers and fries to milkshakes to (of course) creamy whips that can be dipped in all types of toppings.

Dreamy Whip, Burlington

Burlington may be a bit of a drive for some, but if you’re in the mood for a creamy whip, it may be worth it. Dreamy Whip opened in 2019, originally as a mobile ice cream truck, now they operate a brick-and-mortar location as well as two trucks. They offer rotating flavors of soft serve as well as floats and coffee drinks.

Piper’s Cafe and Ice Cream Bar, Covington

This Covington spot has a massive menu with an array of ice creams, floats, coffee drinks and more. They serve some very unique ice cream flavors that range from jellybean to crème de menthe to black walnut, plus tons of toppings like sour patch bites and chocolate rocks.

Ameristop Bellevue, Bellevue

At this popular spot, you can get craft beers, lottery tickets, creamy whips and more. Ameristop Bellevue operates two soft serve machines year-round, each offering two flavors that can be served on their own or swirled. Right now, they have cherry and lime in one and orange and vanilla in the other. Closer to summer, they may have the famous Kings Island blue ice cream.
