It’s been 10 years since the inaugural Frontier Airlines flight at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.
Since then, there have been nearly 49,000 Frontier flights out of CVG, serving approximately 7.1 million passengers. On May 17, 2013, the first Frontier flight offered at CVG was a daily non-stop to Denver. Today, Frontier passengers departed on a nonstop flight to Cancun.
During the anniversary celebration, Bobby Spann, VP of air service development at CVG, said Frontier Airlines really “changed the makeup” of the airport.
“A lot of great things have happened over the past 10 years,” said Spann. “Ten years later we have 7.1 million customers that have flown Frontier Airlines saving a lot of money.”
Frontier was the first discount airline carrier service at CVG since the late 1990s. Prior to May 2013, CVG offered no low-cost carriers.
“Ten years ago on May 17, you might remember where were the most expensive airport in the country,” Spann said at Monday’s Kenton County Airport Board meeting. “We didn’t have any low-cost carriers but May 17, 2013 — that all changed.”
Frontier flies to 12 destinations from CVG: Atlanta, Cancun, Denver, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Philadelphia, Raleigh-Durham, Tampa, Dallas-Fort Worth and Phoenix.
