Residents along North Bend Road in Hebron have been asking for improvements to sidewalks in the area, and Boone County is delivering.

At Tuesday night’s Boone County Fiscal Court meeting, a bid was awarded to Neyra Paving to complete the job of connecting neighbors to local retail and restaurants by foot.

“On Feb. 23, the county received eight bids for construction of a sidewalk along North Bend Road between KY 237 and Britt Drive,” said County Engineer Robert Franxman. “This 1200 foot gap will really complete a sidewalk along the entirety of North Bend Road.”

The lowest bidder for the project was Neyra Paving, coming in at $86,436.23, which is approximately 20% below the engineer’s estimate and $100,000 under the amount budgeted in fiscal year 2023.

The county will fund the project entirely and has an estimated completion date of Nov. 30, 2023.

“Did all the property owners there get notified that their yard is probably going to get torn up?” asked Commissioner Chet Hand.

Franxman assured that neighbors not only know, but have been asking for the repairs.

“This is an area where we’ve actually heard from folks quite a bit that have been requesting the sidewalks be completed,” said Franxman. “I believe Senator Schickel has been involved with a bunch of owners down in that area, advocating for this project, as well.”

Judge/Executive Gary Moore noted that many neighbors in that area use those sidewalks to walk to the nearby retail areas, but that the sidewalks don’t go all the way.

“Is there a future project to get us the rest of the way there?” Moore asked.

“There is a Drees development called the Woodland,” Franxman said. “As a requirement of their development, they are required to complete a sidewalks that extends all the way to new KY 237.”

Moore reiterated that neighbors in the area would soon be connected to those nearby shops and restaurants by foot.

The motion passed 4-0.
