Dave Knox was named executive director of Blue North, a Northern Kentucky-based economic development organization supporting entrepreneurship.
In 2010, Knox opened the Cincinnati office of the digital agency Rockfish, growing it to more than 80 employees before it sold to WPP. Simultaneously, he co-founded the startup accelerator the Brandery in Over-The-Rhine.
Knox has invested in tech startups, venture capital funds, and restaurants and entertainment venues across the country, including in Northern Kentucky.
He ran Vine Street Ventures, a small seed capital fund, and most recently practiced entrepreneurship through acquisition when he bought a small brand called Nature’s Willow, which he grew four times in two years and just recently sold after obtaining nationwide distribution, an announcement said.
Knox is also the author of Predicting The Turn: The High Stakes Game of Business Between Startups and Blue Chips and spoke at multiple events such as SXSW, CES and TEDx.
“In Dave Knox we found a leader who experienced every seat around the entrepreneur table,” said Blue North Chairman and Kenton County Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann. “He’s been an investor, mentor, advisor, board member, corporate executive, and entrepreneur. Through this diverse background, I’m confident that Dave Knox will be the leader we need to galvanize our entrepreneurship community and take Blue North and Northern Kentucky to the next level.”
Earlier this year, Blue North hired Jessica Wert as program director and retained TechGrit to study the state of Northern Kentucky’s “entrepreneurial ecosystem”.
