The North by Hotel Covington expansion is set to open in Covington in October, which will extend the hotel’s footprint from 7th Street on Madison to E. Pike Street.

Justin Ham, General Manager of Hotel Covington, said he is delighted with the progress the construction team has made since breaking ground on the expansion.

“Things are still naturally changing, like nailing down the design of a few locations within the building, especially like the lobby and ballroom are pretty much done,” Ham said. “We’re still working on the amazing penthouse suites that are going to be on the 4th floor with the great views. Those details are still being tied down. We’re still on track to open up in October of 2022.”

The North addition will feature 53 elevated guest rooms and a ballroom that holds up to 500 people.

“This new addition is really going to sing in the style, character and comfort, much like Hotel Covington did. But we’re adding in unique touches that’s going to pay homage to the unique character of the building. We’re really excited about that,“ Ham said. “We’re adding another unique location for travelers that’s going to continue the growth of downtown Covington.”

Hotel Covington was recently named the best lodging facility in Greater Cincinnati and the No. 1 hotel in the state of Kentucky by US News & World Report.

The Saylers Group and Hub + Webb Architects announced the opening of the original Hotel Covington in Summer of 2016. The building was once Coppin’s Department Store, formerly one of the largest retailers in Northern Kentucky.

The hotel was started with a horse race, as John Coppin’s, the department store founder, bet on a long shot garnered him a winning ticket, which he cashed in to construct the store. The restoration of the building cost $22 million, according to the Hotel Covington website.
