A night of food, prize giveaways, fun and community resources could be beneficial for anyone.
But for those seeking help with addiction or people who have been formerly incarcerated, such an event can be a lifeline.
The 3rd annual Reentry Resource Night, to offer those who may need addiction recovery or post-incarceration services, is scheduled for July 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Life Learning Center at 20 W. 18th Street in Covington.
More than 50 nonprofit partners and social service agencies who specialize in services including housing, education, and workforce development are scheduled to attend the event. A job fair featuring many local employers will take place inside the Life Learning Center and job offers will be made on-site. COVID-19 testing, an expungement clinic, HIV testing, and Narcan training will also be available.
Former NFL player and Super Bowl winner Rocky Boiman will make a special guest appearance and Sweet Revenge will perform live music.
A large giveaway will close out the evening at 7 p.m. Some of the prizes include a 58” smart TV, overnight stay at Holiday Inn Express, tattoo removal, oil change, and four rounds of golf, all of which are provided by participating vendors.
Studies show that one in three adults have a criminal record that may show up in a routine background check, and that adults in poverty are three times more likely to be arrested than those who aren’t, according to the Life Learning Center.
“Reentry Resource Night is a positive way to give people hope that they can recover,” said Robin Luken, program coordinator/peer support specialist at Life Learning Center. “Events like this are critical to the community. Bringing so many resources together in one place helps individuals in recovery, individuals returning from incarceration, but beyond that, it should be a fun night for adults and children.”
Some of the organizations that collaborated for the event are Life Learning Center, Brighton Center, St. Elizabeth Journey Recovery, Bright Outlook Recovery, Brightview, Family Care Solutions, Tattoo Removal Ink, and the Northern Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy.
Brighton Center’s Center Table, a social enterprise catering company, is catering the event, and Master Provisions, a distributor of resources to partner nonprofit agencies who serve people in need, is providing refreshments.
