A 6-year old in Erlanger helped raised nearly $7,500 for cancer research by riding his bike.
The Schroth family hosted a bike parade in late May to raise money for cancer research and to mark the second anniversary since 6-year old Graham Schroth received his cancer diagnosis. Graham was diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoblastic Leukemia on May 28, 2020. It’s the most common type of childhood cancer, and Graham is currently receiving treatments at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
More than 50 children joined Graham in the parade, 150 people participated in T-shirt sales and raffles to help raise $7,454 for CancerFree KIDS. Founded in 2002, CancerFree KIDS has invested more than $7 million to fund high-risk, high-reward research initiatives at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Avondale and Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus.
The studies intend to find cures and gentler treatments to help children better cope with the pains and challenges of fighting cancer. In most cases, this research would go unfunded without the support of CancerFree KIDS.
To date, the Graham family has raised over $19,500 for cancer research.
“Graham’s Bike Parade is such a special and unique way to honor Graham and recognize his outstanding courage as he battles cancer,” says Jill Brinck, executive director, CancerFree KIDS. “We have loved being a part of this event and are so thankful to the Schroth Family for choosing to support CancerFree KIDS’ mission in Graham’s honor. He is a joy to know and we look forward to celebrating him year after year.”
Graham’s mother, Morgan Schroth, said her son specifically chose to support CancerFree KIDS and uses the parade as a means of raising money and awareness for childhood cancers.
“We are so grateful for the friends and family who joined us in celebrating Graham at his Bike Parade again this year,” says Morgan Schroth, Graham’s mother. “While his fight has not been without bumps, we have been blessed with great support and minimal complications through treatment so far. We know that others’ paths can be quite different. Graham made the decision himself to support CancerFree KIDS with this event to raise awareness and give back to others that share our journey to beat cancer.”
