A new business will open in an old building in Newport, and will celebrate with a ribbon cutting on Friday.
Â
Mansion Hill Bridal, owned by Claire Canter, 24, a graduate of the Fashion School at Kent State University, opens Friday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.
Â
The 124-year old building at 402 Overton Street in the city’s historic East Row neighborhood was preserved and restored to its original 1894 condition, a news release said.
Â
Canter, and her mother, interior designer and University of Cincinnati graduate Amanada Canter, who now builds custom homes, took on the project together.
Â
The younger Canter worked in the business in Florence, Italy, New York City, and Walt Disney World.
Â
The building originally housed Overton Market, and also was home to a butcher shop, a barber shop, and a drug store, Canter said, noting old advertisements that were discovered during the restoration process. Gruel’s Greaseless Cream ads provided some details.
Â
The new owners have created unique window displays from discarded vintage building materials.
Â
Mansion Hill Bridal will help brides-to-be find their dream wedding dress by appointment. It features wedding dresses, veils, accessories, jewelry, and headpieces.
