Written by Bradley Fennell, incumbent candidate for Fort Thomas City Council
As a council member for less than a year, a primary concern has been the need for greater clarity and transparency in the detailed breakdown of expenditures. I want to
establish a budget process that is easier for both Council and residents to understand. I
believe we need a clearer, more comprehensive breakdown of each fund, including
where the money comes from, how it is allocated, and exactly how it is spent.
I will continue to work toward a budget document that provides the necessary financial detail while presenting that information in clear, straightforward language. I also want to ensure that annual spending and tax rate decisions are based on demonstrated needs, realistic projections, and clearly defined priorities. Taxpayers deserve to understand how their money is being used and to have confidence that Council is making informed, responsible financial decisions.
I did not run for Council simply to maintain the status quo. I believe we have an
obligation to continually evaluate how our city operates, how we spend taxpayer dollars,
and how we plan for the future. Whether it is improving budget transparency, prioritizing infrastructure investments, maintaining our historic infrastructure, or carefully evaluating future development, I believe our decisions should be informed, deliberate, and focused on the long term interests of our residents.
I also believe that responsible leadership requires balancing today’s needs with tomorrow’s obligations. We must respect the tax dollars entrusted to us while
recognizing that maintaining the quality of life Fort Thomas residents expect requires
thoughtful planning, responsible investment, and accountability.
Ultimately, I want my service on Council to be measured by progress toward these
goals: a more transparent and understandable budget, a proactive approach to
infrastructure investment, and a commitment to preserving what makes Fort Thomas a distinctive place to live. These priorities require consistent effort, careful oversight, and responsible decision making, and they are the areas where I intend to focus my time and attention.
Most importantly, I believe residents deserve a local government that listens, communicates clearly and is willing to ask the difficult questions. My commitment is to
approach each decision with an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a focus on what is best for Fort Thomas as a whole.
I am proud to serve this community, and I want to help preserve what makes Fort Thomas special while ensuring that we remain financially responsible, proactive in our
planning, and well positioned for future generations.
I humbly ask for your vote on November 3rd or sooner. My ballot position is #5.
