The U.S. 27 “Safety Improvement Project” in Campbell County begins July 13.
Crews will begin work on a highway safety improvement project at the intersection of Alexandria Pike (U.S. 27) and Kenton Station Road (KY 1936). This work was originally scheduled to begin Monday, July 6, but has been pushed back one week.
The project will improve safety and traffic flow by converting the intersection to a Reduced Conflict U-Turn.
According to the transportation cabinet, when approaching a Reduced Conflict U-Turn from the main road, drivers can continue straight or make a left/right turn. When approaching from side streets, drivers start by making a right turn. After turning right, drivers can continue straight or enter the left turn lane to make a U-turn through the median. After making a U-turn, drivers can complete their desired movement through the intersection.
During the first phase of construction, the right lane on U.S. 27 northbound will be closed while crews construct the turnaround area and acceleration lane, along with shoulder improvements and guardrail work. The speed limit through the work zone will be reduced to 45 mph.
