The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced that all Driver Licensing Regional Offices will be closed on Thursday, June 4, and Friday, June 5, as the state rolls out a new driver’s licensing system.
Offices will reopen on Monday, June 8. Customers whose licenses or IDs expire in June are advised to visit an office early.
The new system, myDrive, will replace Kentucky’s nearly 40-year-old platform. myDrive is an online driver services portal that lets Kentuckians pre-apply for a license, permit, or ID, request a card replacement, check their current license status, and more.
The myDrive portal will become available on June 8 at drive.ky.gov. State officials encourage residents to create accounts early, even if they do not have immediate licensing needs. Some users may need to complete identity verification by requesting a secure code through the mail, a process that could take additional time.
Kentuckians scheduled to take written or road tests through the Kentucky State Police are also encouraged to pre-apply for licenses or permits through myDrive before their appointments.
To accommodate the transition, Driver Licensing Regional Offices will offer walk-in hours from 8 a.m. to noon through June 18. Additional Saturday office hours are now available from 8 to 11:30 a.m., with regular monthly Saturday hours resuming in July.
The transition will also temporarily affect some online services. The MyCDL portal for uploading medical certificates will be discontinued beginning at 5 p.m. on June 3, and online driver’s license renewals will be unavailable starting June 3. Those services are expected to return when the new system launches on June 8. Online renewals will still require a completed vision screening form.
