The Covington Riverwalk will undergo a detour beginning May 1 as construction on the Brent Spence replacement bridge project begins.
Specifically, roughly half a mile between Wright Street and Rivercenter Boulevard will close. The nearby ABM Parking Lot, which is not part of the Riverwalk, will also close. Trail users will have to detour onto a temporary route along Rivercenter Boulevard, West Third Street and Highway/Crescent Avenue, or KY-8. Signs will be installed to direct trail users to the detour.
The detour will be open to both cyclists and pedestrians. Rivercenter Boulevard will undergo re-striping to allow for a 10-foot, two-way bike lane inside the existing roadway. Pedestrians will have to use the sidewalk.
On Highway/Crescent Avenue, the north-side sidewalk will be widened to accommodate a shared-use path for both cyclists and pedestrians. A concrete barrier will be installed to separate trail users from vehicle traffic.
