The Covington Board of Commissioners approved a new round of small business incentives at its meeting this week.
The incentives took the form of two facade grants, which are used to finance building repairs and a rent subsidy.
The first facade grant will go to the owner of 507 Altamont Road, which is currently listed as Chewlu, LLC. The building is a vacant commercial property in Botany Hills that the owner hopes to rehab with a new garage door, new front doors, new lighting, the relocation of some utility infrastructure and other infrastructural changes. The city will grant the LLC $8,064 on a roughly six-to-one match basis.

The second facade grant will go to Legal Aid of the Bluegrass, located at 640 Scott Street, to improve the building’s lighting and signage. A dental practice also rents part of the building. The building’s current cloth awning will be removed and the historical masonry awning will be repaired. The city will grant $4,753 to Legal Aid of the Bluegrass on a one-to-one match basis.

Finally, the city plans to grant a rent subsidy to new business Dice on Draft, a board game-themed bar on 5th Street. The business has signed a three-year lease with the owners of the building. The city will grant Dice on Draft a $6,000 rent subsidy.
