(Dayton, Ky)— Commonwealth Comedy Club is thrilled to announce a special headlining weekend with acclaimed comedian Zainab Johnson, performing December 12–13 with two shows each night at 7:30 PM and 9:45 PM.
Zainab Johnson is a force—one of the most original and captivating comedic voices rising in entertainment today. A stand-up comedian, actress, and writer, her comedy is fueled by her one-of-a-kind perspective formed as one of thirteen siblings in a Black Muslim family in Harlem. After earning a degree in Education and Math and becoming a teacher, it didn’t take long for Zainab to realize her true calling was making people laugh.
Since then, her career has skyrocketed. Zainab’s first hour-long comedy special, “Hijabs Off,” premiered on Amazon Prime Video to critical and fan praise. She currently stars as a series regular in Greg Daniels’ hit comedy series “Upload” on Amazon Original. She is also known as one of the hosts of Netflix’s popular series “100 Humans”, and for her standout role as Dr. Hanniel in the award-winning web series Avant-Guardians.
Zainab has made her mark across major comedy platforms including NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers, HBO’s All Def Comedy, and NBC’s Last Comic Standing. Montreal’s world-renowned JFL Comedy Festival has featured her multiple times — first as a “New Face of Comedy,” then among Variety’s Top 10 Comics to Watch, and most recently on the festival’s celebrated show “Just For The Culture.” She’s a paid regular on the stages of The Comedy Store, The Improv, Laugh Factory, and the Comedy Cellar in both LA and New York.
