COVINGTON, Ky. – Nine local vendors, live music, the ZEC Market Place and Holiday shirts —for sale – are all part of Perk the Hall, a one-day event, Saturday, December 6th from 9am to 1 pm.

The event will be hosted by The Point-Perk – one of three enterprises owned and operated by The Point/Arc – the now 54-year-old nonprofit agency serving individuals with developmental disabilities.

“We’ll just call this a cozy event that showcases our coffee shop and shows the public what we do,” said Point-Perk General Manager Rachelle Ungerman. “We’re gathering local community members and showing off our fabulous shop and show people what we do here at The Point/Arc.”

Ungerman has invited nine local vendors to attend the event. “These vendors are mostly local, and they have participated in the summer Farmer’s Market on Washington Street here in Covington,” she said. “Now they’ll have a chance to sell their products and keep warm at the same time.”

And be entertained.

“We’ll have a live string trio as entertainment,” she said. “They are students from Northern Kentucky University.”

The Zembrodt Education Center – the teaching arm of The Point/Arc – will be well represented, according to Ungerman.

“The ZEC Market Place will have items the students created in their entrepreneurial class on display and for sale to the public,” Ungerman said.

The Point Apparel Shop – another Point owned and operated enterprise – will have their Christmas shirts – all sizes – on display and for sale as well, according to Ungerman.

And as for the General Manager –a coffee expert in her own right – she has house-made peppermint on tap for the festivities.

The Point/Arc was founded in 1972 by a group of parents fighting for the educational rights of their children, who were diagnosed with an intellectual and developmental (I/DD) disability. The mission – to help people with disabilities achieve their highest potential educationally, socially, residentially and vocationally.

More than this, The Point/Arc has been an organization that identifies gaps in services and provides care and support to fill these gaps – even when government funding sources are not available.

The Point-Perk, located at 45 W. Pike Street, Covington, celebrates its 10-year anniversary this year.
